Virtual: Victories & Visions

Virtual, once again…

In November, when the COVID pandemic returned to concerning levels in Marion County, Washington Township students  returned once again to fully virtual classrooms. However, thanks to donors like you, community partners, and the tireless efforts of district staff, our schools were prepared with supplies, devices and materials to support remote instruction in a way that was not possible in March 2020. As we entered back into a fully virtual space, The Advancement Center continued to work with social workers and administration to identify and address changing educational need.

We view the current preparedness as victories for the virtual format. However, we know continuing down this road successfully will require additional vision.

Hardships created by the current pandemic extend well beyond the educational space. Many of our families are grappling with struggles that fall outside of supports that The Advancement Center is equipped to provide. We also know that teachers will continue to need resources as they navigate new platforms. As such we want to connect both those looking for help and those looking to help with the following resources:

Purposity

Purposity is an app that sends out weekly notifications of specific student and family needs in our MSDWT community. You can watch this video to learn more about Purposity.

Those in need of support…

  • Connect with your school social worker.

Those wishing to give support…

  • Download the Purposity app in the App Store or Google Play, and follow Washington Township Schools. School social workers will place needs on the platform as they become known and community members have the opportunity to meet those needs as they choose.

Teacher/ Classroom Needs

The Advancement Center will continue to provide classroom grants and matching funds for DonorsChoose.org projects to support changing virtual instruction needs.

Teachers needing classroom support…

  • Winter grant applications are open and can be accessed here. Funds will be allocated in early 2021.
  • Place qualifying projects on DonorsChoose.org and the Advancement Center will apply matching funds for the project while available. Many DonorsChoose.org projects can have materials sent directly to students learning virtually.

Those wishing to help support classrooms…

  • Donate here to the Annual Fund as that goes to provide funding for grants and matching dollars on DonorsChoose.org.
  • Support MSDWT projects on DonorsChoose.org. Searching Washington Township Schools Indiana will bring up all open projects currently posted by MSDWT teachers. There are usually 10-20 posted at any given time. Donations you make toward these projects will be matched dollar for dollar by The Advancement Center.

Community Resources

Listed are local organizations that serve our students and their families. These are wonderful organizations to know about and support in this time of need.

Those wishing to give support…
