MSDWT School Closure Support Fund

MSDWT School Closure Support Fund

These are unprecedented times…

The true impact our Washington Township Schools have on our community has never been more apparent than with the sudden absence of the traditional supports they provide.

Many reached out to ask what they can do to help…

In an effort to provide Washington Township supporters an outlet to help our MSDWT community in this time of uncertainty, we coordinated the MSDWT School Closure Support Fund.

In conjunction with Washington Township Schools administration and social workers, we  identified 3 pertinent areas that need support- at home educational resources, basic needs and awareness of community resources.

Thank You…

The flash campaign that ran through Wednesday March 26th was a true representation of community and raised over $27,000. Hundreds of gifts, big and small, came together to support our most vulnerable. We, along with the MSDWT social work team, are now doing the work of getting resources distributed.

As this Pandemic continues and remote learning needs continue to develop, The Advancement Center and the MSDWT School Closure Fund will continue to serve as a life line for the educational needs and basic needs for hundreds of Washington Township students and their families. Thank You for being a part of that lifeline.

Educational Needs

School and library closures have limited the access of educational materials for students confined to their homes. This disproportionately impacts low-income students and exacerbates the educational inequality of at home learning.

How you helped:

Donations to the MSDWT School Closure Support Fund are being utilized to purchase and deliver at-home support materials to school families. We have worked with MSDWT social workers and curriculum coordinators to identify beneficial material. (Due to recent health recommendations surrounding the COVID-19 virus, and out of an abundance of caution for our volunteers and recipients, we focused on monetary support to purchase new materials and were, and continue to be unable to accept donation of previously used materials for these efforts.)

What your donation provided:

256 students (and counting) with at home learning supplies filled with workbooks, school supplies, books, crafting supplies, puzzles and educational games personalized to their learning levels and interests!

Basic Needs

School closures impact food access and create child-care shortfalls. The current economic instability associated with COVID-19 can also put a strain on personal finances. While all are impacted by the current uncertainty, our students from low income families are particularly vulnerable.

How you helped:

The MSDWT School Closure Support Fund  is being utilized to help MSDWT social workers address food insecurity, personal hygiene, household and transportation support needs.

What your donation provided:

57 families (and counting) with basic need kits filled with cleaning supplies, personal care items, laundry soap, dish soap as well as diapers and formulas for families with babies. As well as hundreds of protective masks to the MSDWT nutrition staff working hard to keep our students fed through remote distribution.

Community Resources
