The class of 1977 will be celebrating their 40th class reunion this weekend and as such is the perfect year to focus our second football flashback!
Collectively and individually the 1977 Panther Football team had a sensational season. The regular season ended with a 9-1 record with their only loss to Lawrence Central. During their nine win campaign, the Panthers upset top ranked Carmel, on their home turf, and bettered the eighth ranked Ben Davis Giants. The 1977 Panther football team was the first to qualify for the relatively new state playoff tournament, losing a heart-breaker to eventual State runner-up Cathedral 6-7. 1977 North Central graduate, Al Darring earned all-state honors by rushing for a remarkable 1,272 yards, and was the first Panther to ever rush over 1,000 yards in a single season. In total, eight members of the team made the all-county team.
Homecoming is an important time for any academic institution and North Central is no different. It is a time of year not only about football, but also about welcoming your alumni home and celebrating the strength of your current community. We hope you will join us this Friday as we cheer on the 2017 Panthers and celebrate homecoming. Because regardless of if you walked the halls in 1977 or 2017… we are all PANTHER PROUD.
